Our residencies bring together practitioners from diverse locales and cultural backgrounds for meaningful engagement, inquiry, and discourse.

For local, national, and international artists working in a wide range of disciplines

The Artist in Residence (AIR) program awards fully sponsored residencies to approximately 45 local, national, and international artists each year. Artists selected for this program work at the cutting-edge of their field, are at a critical stage in their career, and express a desire to work within Headlands’ unique physical environment and peer-to-peer community. Artists in Residence work in all media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture. Residencies of four to ten weeks include flexible studio space, chef-prepared meals, comfortable housing, and travel and living stipends. Learn more
