The inaugural Summer School of Women’s Activism, which is a unique course combining theory and action, history and vision to understand the intersectionality of our HERstories, kicks off on Saturday, August 10th. Registered participants spend four consecutive Saturdays studying, analyzing, and building together for the fourth wave of feminism. Beginning with a look back at the origins of women’s oppression and building a foundation for understanding the first three waves of feminism, the sessions deal with current issues such as trafficking and militarism and how it affects women both in our mother countries and the United States. Each class will connect the theory with action. We will discuss questions such as what does it mean to be of the third world living in the first? What does sisterhood look like? What is transnational feminism?

Beginning August 10th, the sessions will run for four Saturdays from 12-4pm with light lunch being provided. Each registered student gets a reader and there will be study materials given for each session. The Summer School will be held at a location on Valencia Street in San Francisco’s Valencia Corridor-Mission District. The exact location will be given to registered participants only. The fee for the SSoWA is $40. If you are unable to pay the registration fee, we have limited scholarships available for interested applicants.

AF3IRM welcomes donations to the school and sponsors for those who cannot afford the registration fee.
