Artist Call

Nowhere to Run
Climate Refugees

Baksun Books & Arts is seeking works on paper for a scholarly art book/portfolio and eventual traveling exhibition, Nowhere to Run: Climate Refugees, that will look at the displacement of individuals and communities from their lands thanks to climate change, environmental degradation and/or ecological abuses that can inevitably lead to dislocation.

We seek international artist interpretations of the experiences of those who are forced to flee their homelands because of flood, drought, storm, rising sea levels, deforestation or agricultural uncertainty, mining, fracking, dams, tar sands, “post-colonial” colonization and other violations throughout the planet. And we seek works by artists that also describe the power, agency, spiritual strength, actions and alliances of those affected.

Between 50 and 75 images will be chosen from artists worldwide. Whether prints, photographs, drawings, paintings, or other forms, work for exhibition must be on paper, no larger than 16”x20” and unframed, unmated (art will be hung with clips or magnets). All images must be submitted as JPEGs at 300 dpi or higher.

For the exhibition, a limited number of video artworks will also be considered. DVDs must be compatible with broadcast formats used in the United States.

DEADLINE: November 15th.

Please submit entries by JPEG attachment to Jennifer Heath, baksunarts@aol.com Include a short bio and an artist statement related to the work – who, what, where, when, how. DVD submissions may be posted on Vimeo.
