Alicia Marvan

Alicia Marván is a Mexican-American artist, designer and cultural entrepreneur dedicated to innovative and interdisciplinary practices. Throughout her 22 yearlong professional career, she has participated in over 200 exhibitions and projects, many of which have received support from cultural organizations and academic institutions in Mexico, USA, Canada, Chile, Uruguay, Brasil, Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, The Netherlands and South Africa. Recent
accomplishments include receiving the Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life by the Women’s World Summit Foundation in Switzerland (2020), and the Individual Artist Grant by the New York State Council for the Arts (2018). She has lectured and taught both in Mexico and the United States,
in the subjects of art, art history, social science, art and sustainability, cultural development, and interdisciplinary collaboration, from elementary to college level. As a cultural entrepreneur, she has spearheaded programs to foster equity, inclusion and economic development in underserved
communities. In 2006 she founded the Guapamacátaro Center for Art and Ecology in Central Mexico, a site-based and community-oriented cultural initiative where artists, scientists, educators and activists converge to foster sustainable development. Through this venture, she has
implemented visionary tactics to serve both as professional development for visiting artists, and socio-economic advance platforms for locals.
