Angela Sanders

In my interdisciplinary practice, I explore the stark realities of climate change through the lens of material agency, the interconnectedness of humanity and nature, and the ethics of care. As an immigrant, the impacts of climate change have been an embodied experience, transitioning from a city perpetually under the threat of floods to one grappling with droughts and wildfires. Within my current work, I am interested in using natural materials in ways that speak to unstable states, ephemerality, fragility, and temporalities.

Navigating this personal journey from water to fire, from abundance to scarcity, not only deepened my comprehension of the climate crisis but also laid the foundation for an approach to the dialectics and philosophies of care within her work. My current work invites viewers to reflect on established norms and encourages active participation in ethics and reciprocity. It fosters a thoughtful appreciation for materiality while promoting a deeper understanding of humanity’s relationship with nature.
