Dedicating my creative energy to our common future, my work has centered on sustainability for 30+ years. I am best known as creator of NYC’s Green Map and as the founding director of Green Map System, a local-global collaborative eco-cultural organization with 988+ locally-led projects in 65 countries, as seen at http://GreenMap.org. Each Green Map is unique, yet all use the now ‘open’ Green Map Icons to identify, promote and link local ecological, social justice and green living sites. Diversifying into placemaking, consulting and other projects, Green Map’s new website will launch in late 2018.

My mixed media production projects have promoted renewable energy (Liberty Science Center’s SolSpherica, 2000; R-951, NYC’s first Net Zero Passive House building, 2015); bicycling (Bike Ready 2016; Lower East Ride 2013); community co-development (Gardens Rising 2015; Return of the #StantonBldg 2016; Hola LES 2016; adaptive infrastructure (Cutoff Coalition 2016 and more) and highlighted waste reduction (Times Square’s “self emptying” recycling bins, 1993; Less = More map 2012). I have also taught (NYU, Parsons, Cooper Union), spoken at dozens of conferences and universities and written on eco-design internationally since 1990. I was appointed Designer in Residence at Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institute in 1997 and was awarded a 2003 Sea Change residency by Gaea Foundation. I was a 2017 TED Resident, a 2016 LES Community Hero and a 2015 Climate S’Hero.
