Diane Cox

As the societal/world pace quickens, I fear we will become disenfranchised from our inner knowledge, and thus capable of actions without responsibility.

My previous career as an environmental biologist informs the work, which questions viewer’s relationships with the “other”, e.g. environment, earth/nature, species, self. Materials are crucial to content and are chosen for the potency, with each material’s unique properties or “baggage” pushing the work of metaphor further through experience or memory. Currently I am investigating non-traditional public spaces as venue. Recent work, mowing text in fallow fields currently not in agricultural use, isolates the viewer in aircraft at altitudes up to 30,000′, each letter is the size of a football field, the text is ephemeral and anonymous.
