Susan Danis
My work is a celebration of the universe as it is, with its incredible vibrancy, worlds within worlds, and mystery.
I embrace the physical stuff of the world and love using it to create new vocabularies of form and meaning. My work is made with attention to detail and fine materials: toys, pickled snakes, and used shoe laces; hot pink feather boas, dentures, parakeet bells and garters; fresh water pearls, hair, innards, freeze dried moles, and tentacles . . . Some works resonate content, others embody a state of being.
Writer Jamba Dunn compared seeing my work to finding a voodoo pouch in his cotton candy. Painter Tony Speirs said “I will have nightmares about this . . . and I’ll wake up smiling.”
