Lisa Breznak

LISA BREZNAK is a sculptor living and working in Peekskill, New York.

Through the authority of the object, constructed in clay or in recycled and repurposed foam core or polystyrene, she addresses issues of the human condition and the natural world, often commenting on food issues from farmers to GMO’s.

“My goal is to create objects that give visual pleasure, intellectual stimulus, and philosophical perceptions that are uniquely personal and cultivate introspection for both myself and the viewer. While doing this, I hope to demonstrate that beauty, ideas, significance, and humor are not necessarily mutually exclusive, and in fact may be the only way of effectively presenting useful and cautionary tales.”

Ms. Breznak exhibits internationally and has had artists residencies in the US and Japan, and a solo exhibition at the Hudson River Museum, NY. She has lectured on her work at Seika University, Kyoto Prefectural University, and the Kyoto International Group, Japan, the Dorsky Museum (SUNY New Paltz) as well as Exit Art in NYC, and at the Aldrich Museum in Ct among others. She was a Fellow in the NYFA Mark Artists program, and is the recipient of two New York Foundation for the Arts Special Opportunity Stipends. Having degrees from Rochester Institute of Technology, SUNY and Goddard College, she also did post-graduate studies at Parsons School of Design.
