  • A Tangled Hierarchy stitched and beaded sculptures inspired by marine life

I have been a working artist for over 30 years. My love of fiber began when I was a young girl. I have tried to push the boundaries of needlework, using what has been considered traditionally as “women’s work”, in unexpected ways, addressing contemporary subject matter. Themes have ranged from the personal and the spiritual, to the scientific and the political. In 2010 and 2011, I manipulated needlepoint into 3-dimensional forms. The result is The Tangled Hierarchy, a group of hanging sculptures inspired by marine life. Currently, I’m working in hand-stitched embroidery, with pieces that are commentaries on culture and society.

I have had numerous solo exhibitions in both Texas and New York State. My work has been exhibited nationally in invitational and juried shows, including in Brooklyn, Arizona, Maryland, Ohio, Oregon, Tennesee and Virginia. Images of the work have been published in American Craft Magazine and Surface Design Journal. My artwork can be found in over 40 private collections throughout the United States.
