Donna Marxer

Donna Marxer has been a painter for 55 years. Her work has gone through many phases, but the continuing thread pursues form in nature ranging from the abstract to the more literal. Today she calls herself a “fictional realist.”

A recognized “environ artist,” she is the veteran of more than two dozen solo exhibitions in New York, Virginia, Florida and abroad. Among her numerous group exhibitions, she has shown at the Brooklyn Museum, New York’s Alternative Museum, the Addison Museum in Andover, Massachusetts, the Bell Museum in Minneapolis and the Cheekwood Museum National in Nashville. An accomplished pastelist, she has been chosen for juried exhibitions by the Pastel Society of Canada, the Maryland Pastel Society and the National Pastel Society of America.

She has received recent grants from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation and the Puffin Foundation and has been an artist Fellow 16 times in such colonies as the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Ragdale Foundation and The Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland. Donna has created an artists in residency program for Everglades National Park which in seven years has become the most successful of all the National Park programs.

Her work is found in the permanent collections of the Department of the Interior, the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Florida and the Samuel P. Harn Museum in Gainesville, Florida as well as numerous other public and private collections.

In addition to her painting activities, she has provided set and costume design for the Rebecca Kelly Dance Company of New York City. Marxer is an arts writer, a published poet and a frequent arts lecturer and panelist. She is an artist/activist who served as Executive Director of New York’s “Artists Talk On Art” panel series and served on the boards of the Organization of Independent Artists and New York Artists Equity. In the role of curator, she has produced exhibitions both here and abroad. She is listed in Who’s Who in the World.

Donna Marxer graduated from the University of Florida with the Bachelors of Art and from Columbia University with the Masters of Art.
