Melissa Wang

Bio
I am an Asian-American artist whose parents immigrated from China and Taiwan. I received my B.A. in Literature/Writing from the University of California, San Diego and my M.A. in English from the University of California, Davis. I researched and taught science-fiction literature as a PhD candidate at UC Davis before segueing into tech.
In 2019, I began a professional art practice. Since then, I have exhibited at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA; Torrance Art Museum in Los Angeles, CA; and the de Young Museum in San Francisco, CA with a solo exhibition at Root Division (Frank-Ratchye space) in San Francisco, CA. My work can be found in private and public collections, including Brown University’s Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in Providence, RI and Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. I am the recipient of an Individual Emerging Artist Fellowship from the California Arts Council in 2021.
In early 2020, I founded my design studio to serve creatives and creative organizations as events and experiences shifted digitally. I have designed websites, created marketing campaigns, launched photoshoots and virtual events. I am currently curating my first in-person exhibition at SOMArts Gallery in San Francisco, CA from April 30-May 22, 2022.
