ARTIST STATEMENT

My work embodies a fascination with how physical, psychological, atmospheric and spiritual experiences in land can translate into two dimensions through the breadth of possibility of water-based media.

Having grown up among a family of geologists and artists whose ancestors took part in the settling of the West, my deep affinity is for the desert. I satisfy my longing for desert topographies by revisiting psychological and metaphysical memories and sensations through the action of paint.

My practice–a cycle of walking, collecting, mapping, and painting–is continually inspired and renewed by specific places in Nevada’s Basin and Range area and the Mojave.
