Sophia Moreau

Sophia Moreau spent her formative years in the outskirts of Seattle, where the dark, forested landscape and dense mists prompted her to take up charcoal and create surreal and macabre drawings as a child. Later in life, she transitioned to clay, practicing traditional sculpture for several years before developing a contemporary twist on the Victorian American aesthetic, incorporating and imitating period objects.

Today, Moreau is an emerging, self-taught, interdisciplinary artist living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Working primarily in mixed media sculpture, her pieces have been shown in exhibitions across the country and are currently in private collections in Seattle, Utah, California, Colorado, and North Carolina. In her work, Moreau explores questions of self-image, the natural world, history, and consumerism. She has a very personal take on the political, drawing attention to contemporary issues, such as climate change and societal power structures in her various works.
