Susan Schmidt

Artist Statement / Bio

Susan Schmidt who resides in Oklahoma City, OK, has been painting in oils on canvas since age 13, acrylic on canvas since adulthood, and oil on porcelain since 2005.

"I am using my talents as an artist, be it painting, still photography, videography, writing, and/or protesting to call attention to the environmental and community issues that concern me."

"These concerns for the environment began with childhood camping trips from the Florida Keys to Circle, Alaska.  As an adult I found a community of outdoor enthusiasts who dedicated themselves to protecting the environment when I joined the Sierra Club.  Until I was invited to join WEAD I was unaware there were women artists around the world focusing on such a wide range of issues related to community justice and environmental issues.  With our democracy, the environment, and life itself at stake in these difficult times, it is refreshing to see so many WEAD members using their talents and passions to help the world focus on the ills and opportunities that define our generation."
