San Francisco, CA: Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) is pleased to announce its first Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program. The AIR program will give Bay Area-based participants access to BAVC’s state-of-the-art technical facilities and in-house expertise, along with the opportunity to produce work in collaboration with BAVC programs.

BAVC’s AIR program is made possible through the generosity of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Open to San Francisco Bay Area residents, the AIR program will support three artists across three, three-month-long residency periods with a culminating exhibition in June of 2016. The residency periods are as follows:

• Summer 2015: June 1 – August 31, 2015
• Fall 2015: October 1 – December 23, 2015
• Spring 2016: Feb 1 – April 31, 2016

The primary goals of the Residency are to provide Bay Area artists with the space and resources to work with media that may include video, audio, web or other interactive media/coding or design/development software, and access to new creative opportunities through facilitated collaboration with BAVC programs. Residents will be able to apply BAVC’s resources toward a project already underway or will be able to propose an altogether new project.

Residents will be selected based upon their proposed project and other application materials, which will be reviewed by a panel of representatives in the field. Preference will be given to artists with a strong interest and/or background in emerging media (interactive art, online and networked arts, game arts) and/or video art, with an emphasis on community-based work and social practice.

“The AIR program continues BAVC’s commitment to being a resource for Bay Area artists, who have been an integral part of our community since our founding nearly four decades ago,” says BAVC Executive Director Carol Varney. “Artists teach here, make and exhibit work here, and entrust us with the preservation of their media. Now, thanks to the generous support of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, artists have yet another way to utilize BAVC as part of the creative process, while exploring new opportunities and engaging with the larger community.”

The deadline for Summer 2015 residency period is 5pm PST on Thursday, April 16, 2015. For more information about the AIR program and to apply go to: bavc.org/residency.
