“Creation Care: Water” is an exhibition that investigates the human role in the natural environment with a specific emphasis on our interdependent relationship with water. Bridge Gallery is seeking work by artists working in a variety of media who celebrate the vitality of water and/or compel audiences to consider their responsibility for the care and stewardship of this precious resource.
Prominent scientists have agreed to refer to the earth as “the creation” based on a realization that a “spiritual and cultural transformation” is needed to respond effectively. You may have heard of a growing interest among evangelical Christians to address global environmental problems with the power of biblical truth, called “Creation Care.” And there is a growing consensus among many evangelical Christians, business and political leaders, and the general public that steps must be taken to address these issues. Facts on the quantity of available fresh water on earth: 97%Â of total water on earth is seawater, unfit for human use. Of the 3 % that is fresh, two-thirds is locked up in glaciers or ice around the poles. Only 1 % of all the water is available for human consumption. This amount, which is vital for life, should be enough for all. It falls from the clouds on to the land, nourishes life, returns through rivers to the salty sea and evaporates as fresh water back into the clouds.
Water is not available for all people on earth. There is also inequality in water use in the world. The huge consumption of water by industry and agriculture, and leakage are further problems. Many lessons could be drawn from how Indigenous people avoid the misuse of water.
The exhibition is curated by Bridge Gallery and artists are selected by both invitation and this call for submissions.
