The I-Park Foundation, Inc., located in rural East Haddam, CT (U.S.), announces its 2013 multi-disciplinary artists-in-residence program. Since 2011, the I-Park residency program has been open to landscape/garden designers and landscape architects looking to expand and enrich their creative practice in a retreat-like, collegial setting – in the company of visual artists, composers, writers and, beginning in 2013, architects. Self-directed residencies will be offered from May through November 2013. Most residencies are 4-weeks in duration, though split (2-week) sessions can occasionally be arranged to accommodate busy career schedules.

While the typical residency revolves around studio work, those wishing to undertake aesthetic interventions and conceptual investigations in nature will have broad access to I-Park’s expansive landscape.

Work samples are evaluated through a competitive, juried process. Applications are submitted online. A $30 fee helps defray the cost of the independent selection panel. Accepted designers are responsible for their own work materials as well as transportation to and from the area. I-Park provides a basic meal program where most of, though not all, the food is provided. The program is otherwise offered at no cost to invitees.

There is also a special Environmental Art Program in 2013 (residency and exhibition) for which landscape/garden design proposals are being solicited.

Accommodations at I-Park include comfortable, private living quarters in an 1850’s era farmhouse and a private studio space. In addition to attentive staff support, shared workshop space, a modest library and wireless internet, an array of tools, equipment and site materials are available on request, generally at no cost.

International applicants are welcome. To defray the cost of travel, four $750.00 grants, to be distributed among all the disciplines, will be awarded to non-North American participants whose work is held in particularly high regard by the Grant Committee.
