Call for Artists

Make Art not Landfill

Overview

Recology, an employee-owned resource recovery company with a solid commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices in partnership with Cracked Pots, Inc., an environmental arts non-profit based in Portland, Oregon, are excited to announce a new initiative, the Pacific Northwest Art Program (PNAP).

PNAP seeks to inspire and educate the public on recycling and resource conservation by promoting innovative and sustainable art made by local artists who have diverted material from the landfill.

This juried program will provide five local (Portland) artists with access to the Metro Central transfer station to allow materials to be gleaned for the purpose of creating art.  Selected artists will be paid a one-time stipend and receive a percentage of the sales generated from a public art exhibition to be held on September 15, 2011.

Program Elements

· Each Artist will be paid a $1,000 stipend upon the successful completion of the six-month program.

· Each Artist will receive 80 percent commission from the sale of their art purchased at the September 15, 2011 public art exhibition.

· Each Artist will be required to create a minimum of 10 pieces of art to be sold during the exhibition.

· Ninety (90) percent of each art piece must be created from materials gleaned from Metro Central transfer station.

· Recology, in collaboration with the artist, will retain two pieces of art as part of a permanent company collection on display at Recology facilities in Oregon.

· The five artists selected for PNAP are required to sign an Artist Agreement which details specific aspects of the program.
