2009 Emerging Fields grantees Futurefarmers, the collaborative team of Amy Franceschini and Michael Swaine, will premiere their Creative Capital-supported project, Shoemaker’s Dialogues, at New York’s Guggenheim Museum next week as part of the Museum’s Intervals series.

Shoemaker’s Dialogues consists of sculptures, public programs, actions, commissioned texts and a limited edition book that contemplate the dialogues that were said to have taken place outside of the Agora between Socrates and Simon the Shoemaker. The installation inside the Guggenheim will serve as an anchor for several events and activities, including three off-site Dialogues around the city and three Sole/Soul Sermons delivered by contemporary writers in the museum. In a series of participatory urban actions called the Pedestrian Press, Futurefarmers will make ink from particulate matter collected in front of shoemaker and shoe repair stores across New York City, which museum-goers will use to print transcripts of the Soul/Sole Sermons and the public dialogues.
