TRANSFORMATION & DEGRADATION, Aviva Rahmani, 2002.

WEAD announces its 2017 international members’ exhibit: Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Or do without: Lessons from our Grandmothers. Application found at www.callforentry.org

Highly respected gallerist Donna Seager is guest juror tasked to select the most original, diverse artworks incorporating image and text, books, altered books, and/or calligraphy. Opening April 8, 2017, WEAD’s exhibit will remain on view through June 2017 in the elegant Jewett Gallery of downtown San Francisco’s Civic Center Public Library.

The title is a depression era adage taught by wise grandmothers and families in need. Selected art should focus on eco and cultural values of conservation, preservation and frugality. To protect animal and plant partners, humans and earth, it is essential we consume less and conserve resources.

Additionally, the exhibit will honor WEAD’s 20-year history and connection to San Francisco history through photography and text. In anticipation of the 100 th birthday in 2018 of WEAD’s cofounder Jo Hanson, San Francisco eco artist-activist, photos of her famous ‘Street Sweeping’ project will be shown. More celebration activities will be planned for 2017-2018.

To exhibit artists must be a current WEAD member, but one can join or rejoin upon applying.
