The Center for Culture, History, and Environment (CHE) at the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites scholars, artists, students, and members of the public to join us November 8-10 2014 for The Anthropocene Slam: A Cabinet of Curiosities.

What images and stories can we create that speak with conceptual richness and emotional energy to our rapidly changing visions of future possibilities? At the workshop, an international group of presenters will “pitch” 25 objects that might represent the Anthropocene in a curio cabinet for an epoch conjoining human and natural history. Audience members will critique the submissions and help choose which should be displayed in an upcoming Anthropocene exhibit at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

The workshop will feature a keynote address by Elizabeth Kolbert, author of The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History.

The event is free and open to the public, and it will also be livestreamed from our website.
