The people-powered U.S. Department of Arts and Culture has just launched the next National Action, the People’s State of the Union http://usdac.us/psotu, and would love to have you engaged in this powerful annual civic ritual. Our message is that democracy is a conversation, not a monologue; it takes all our stories, not a single speech—this year more than ever, people will welcome the opportunity to sit in circles, speak their truth, and listen deeply to others.
Brisbane Artist and USDAC Cultural Agent, Beth Grossman is hosting this special event. Please invite all your friends. This event is for the general public and is free of charge. A special thank you to the Sierra Point Yacht Club for providing their space and making it open to the public.Â
This is a powerful way of coming together, getting to know one another, and reflecting on the state of our community, country, and world. No need to prepare anything. Just show up and participate!Â
This year, over 100 Story Circles around the United States will take place between 27 January and 5 February 2017. Once again, the culminating element of *#PSOTU2017* will be a collaborative poem inspired by people’s stories and created by poets across the U.S.Â
The 2017 *Poetic Address to the Nation* will be performed live in San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on March 11th from 6:30pm 8:30pm and will be web-streamed, and later broadcast via Free Speech TV.
