and informational session on

The SACRED NATURE of WATER
Friday, September 19th
Advocacy groups and civil society will converge in NYC on Sunday, September 21st for the unprecedented Peoples Climate March in response to the United Nations Climate Summit on September 23rd.
To help engage faith communities in this pressing global issue and conversation, the  Contemplative Alliance and  Shinnyo-en invite you to join a dialogue on the sacred nature of water Friday, September 19th (timing and location provided with RSVP).
Our time together will focus on what various spiritual traditions can offer in teachings and ritual to re-establish a sacred awareness of the Earth’s commons, particularly the ever growing scarcity of viable, vital waters.
Joining us are two experts on water, Betsy Damon (Keepers of the Waters) and Jennifer Greene (Water Research Institute), whose years of research covers the molecular, environmental and spiritual aspects of this precious resource.  A special presentation by Ms. Greene, “Steps Towards Discovering the Intrinsic Nature of Water,” will comprise stunning photographic images followed by Q&A.
Jennifer Greene serves as a leading spokesperson for environmental concerns and the nature of water. She is an outspoken advocate for the need for wholistic education and research into understanding the processes of Nature and Sustainability. Her in-depth experience and research has led her to conclude that we must become better observers of the processes of Nature, for in our current reductionist thinking and analytical processes much is being lost of the whole picture. She is attracting increasing attention from the international community, including the United Nations.

Betsy Damon began with the creation of Keepers of the Waters in 1991 and has continued to work towards creating community based models of water stewardship. Her work includes sculpture, teaching, lectures and workshops. In China, she created the nation’s first public art event for the environment, and most notably the Living Water Garden, a world renowned public park and natural water filtration model. In the US, she is continuously working with communities and grassroots groups, as well as completing art/ design commissions.

You will also hear from:
