If you haven’t seen Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto’s beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project’s “Trinity” test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan’s nuclear tests in May of 1998, do it now. It takes 15 minutes, but we owe it to our planet to at least watch.
This haiku of the nuclear havoc we have unleashed definitely uses the power of art to bring home a reality otherwise lost in facts and figures…..Â
