kxl_seis_thumbnail-300x300Recently I went to a presentation on the Alberta Tar Sands and the Keystone XL Pipeline.  If you’re not familiar with this abomination, the extraction of oil from this area is currently one of the largest emitters of carbon on the planet and there are plans to expand the current project by up to six times its current size.  The fuel derived from extraction from the Tar Sands is also extremely high in carbon.  Barak Obama is under a lot of pressure to approve The Pipeline which would allow for this expansion by providing access to markets in the US and ports to ship this dirty fuel to other countries.  To learn more about this please go to: http://dirtyoilsands.org/thedirt/article/quick_facts
On Sunday February 7 the Sierra Club, 350.BayArea.org, Natural Resources Defense Council, The Center for Biological Diversity, Rainforest Action Network and CREDO are planning a large action in Washington as well as a rally in San Francisco calling on Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline and take a leadership role in responding to the climate crisis.  A decision to do otherwise will make a joke out of any pretence this country might have about addressing this most important issue of our times.

I know you are as concerned as I am about what is happening to our planet.  Here is a chance to make your concern heard.  I hope you will join me.  Let me know if you’re going.  Maybe we can all go in together.  Invite your friends!

Where: 1 Market Street (next to the Embarcadero BART)
When: Sunday, February 17, 2013. 1 – 3 p.m.
