The City of Norfolk, Virginia seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create environmental public art to address Norfolk’s relationship with water.
Aside from New Orleans, Norfolk is the U.S. city most susceptible to rising tides and flooding challenges. With the support of a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant, we will commission an artist to create art that will be a catalyst for embracing creative solutions for adapting to sea level rise. Artists are encouraged to philosophically investigate meaningful and beautifully designed interventions to sustain livability, preserve the environment and further develop the economic vitality of our shoreline community. The artwork should foster dialog, point towards solutions, be hopeful, provocative, revealing and tell a story of the water.
Budget:Â Â $121,000
Deadline for submission:Â Â 2PM EST, April 1, 2016
